Bath time

Un bébé prends son bain

During the first few weeks of life, it is recommended to give your baby a sponge bath (without immersing them in water) until:

  • The umbilical cord has fallen off and the belly button has completely healed (usually within 1 to 4 weeks).
  • If your baby has been circumcised, the circumcision site has fully healed (typically within 1 to 2 weeks).

During your baby’s first year, two to three baths per week are generally sufficient. Bathing too frequently may dry out your baby’s naturally delicate skin.

Before bath time, make sure you have everything you need within easy reach:

  • A clean, soft washcloth
  • A mild, fragrance-free baby soap and shampoo
  • A soft baby hairbrush
  • A clean towel or blanket
  • A clean diaper
  • Clean clothes
