Diaper changing

Le change de bébé, un moment d'échange

Before bringing your baby home, you will probably choose between disposable and reusable diapers. Whatever your preference, newborns typically use 8 to 10 diapers a day.

Before changing your baby’s diaper, make sure you have everything you need within easy reach. Never leave your baby unattended on a changing table.

Prepare:

  • A clean diaper.
  • Fasteners, if using reusable diapers.
  • A protective diaper cream, if needed.
  • Baby wipes or warm water with a soft washcloth or clean cotton pads.

Changing Your Baby Safely

After every bowel movement or whenever the diaper is wet:

  • Lay your baby on their back.
  • Gently clean the diaper area.

For baby girls, always wipe from front to back to help reduce the risk of urinary tract infections.

For baby boys, be aware that exposure to cool air may trigger urination when the diaper is removed.

If your baby’s skin appears irritated, apply an appropriate protective barrier cream.

Always wash your hands thoroughly after each diaper change.

Diaper Rash

Diaper rash is common in infants. It usually appears as redness, sometimes accompanied by small patches of irritated skin on the buttocks.

In most cases, it improves within a few days with:

  • Frequent diaper changes.
  • Good hygiene.
  • An appropriate protective barrier cream.
  • Some diaper-free time whenever possible, allowing the skin to air dry.
