How to Support Weaning?
When you and your partner decide to stop breastfeeding, a weaning period begins. This transition can be gradual, at a pace that feels right for both you and your baby.
To make this process easier, it is generally recommended to gradually reduce the number of breastfeeding sessions and, when needed, replace them with infant formula appropriate for your baby’s age.
For example, you can start by dropping one daytime feed and then gradually reduce others. Some mothers choose to keep the morning and evening feeds, allowing them to continue breastfeeding partially while returning to work or gradually adapting their baby’s feeding routine.
As the number of feeds decreases, milk production gradually declines. Spreading the weaning process over several weeks can therefore help make the transition smoother for both you and your baby.
Every situation is different. If you experience significant discomfort or pain, or if you have any questions about weaning, do not hesitate to seek advice from your healthcare professional.
