Burping Your Baby: A Simple but Important Step
After each feed, your baby may need to burp. It is a simple step, but an important one.
While feeding, babies often swallow a small amount of air. This can sometimes cause discomfort, such as gas or colic. Burping helps release this trapped air, support digestion and reduce small milk spit-ups.
How to Burp Your Baby
- Hold your baby upright against your chest.
- Rest your baby’s head gently on your shoulder.
- Support your baby securely with one hand.
- With your other hand, gently pat or stroke your baby’s back.
Take your time: some babies burp quickly, while others may need a few minutes.
